Aldehydes are the product of oxidation of: organic acid primary alcohol secondary alcohol ketone

Alcohols where carbon is bound to 3 hydrogen atoms are called primary alcohols and can be oxidized to aldehydes then further to carboxylic acids. Secondary alcohols (C is bound to 2 hydrogen atoms) can only be oxidized to ketones.
