one of the main reasons that the civil war started was because of too much slavery. one side of the united states believed that slavery should be banned and another wanted to keep it then things went on from there and a whole war started

You could argue that the answer is slavery but many would argue that it was economic differences and that slavery was just the breaking point or a justifiable reason to go to war.
