Let f(x) = 8x3 − 28x + 61 and g(x) = 2x + 5. Find f of x over g of x.

OpenStudy (elainemarsden1):

9x2 − 11x − 7 9x2 + 11x + 7 9x3 − 11x2 − 7x 9x3 + 11x2 + 7x

OpenStudy (mhchen):

So you're saying \[\frac{f(x)}{g(x)}=\frac{8x^3-28x+61}{2x+5}\] So basically simplifying polynomials. The basic rule is: 1. Find any restrictions on the domain, In this case, the denominator can't be 0. 2. Factor out both the top and bottom. 3. Simplify by canceling out like-factors on the top and bottom.
