Why are women seen as weak in the workplace?

This is just MY belief...
When the British came to America to be colonists in the roots of America, women stayed at home and did household chores, tended to animals, etc. Men were faced with rougher tasks such as hunting, chopping wood, etc.
By the time America was fighting for independence, men played a very big majority of colonial leadership groups.
The belief has ever since stayed the same, although efforts to stop gender discrimination in the workplace has since decreased gender discrimination.
