OpenStudy (lcncjc):

Please help, will medal and fan. Are all isosceles triangles similar? Justify your answer.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

|dw:1479398554961:dw| Both these triangles are isosceles Have a look at what is meant by 'similar' and see if these meet any of those reasons

OpenStudy (lcncjc):

So not all of them are similar?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Draw your own conclusion - and justify it

OpenStudy (lcncjc):

No. Some can be in completely different shapes and have all different angles. This makes it hard to state that they are ALL similar.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Is it hard to state it - or incorrect?

OpenStudy (lcncjc):

both?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

it is easy to state it - but it would be incorrect to do so

OpenStudy (mrnood):

more formally you should look at teh states for similarity (SAS SSS etc) and show that the 2 triangles above do not necessarily meet ANY of them, therefore not ALL isosceles triangles are similar
