Take a close look at this diagram. What is the length of the base of this parallelogram? What is the height of the parallelogram?
1/2 base and 1/3 height
Actually, the base is smaller than 1/2. Take another look at the dark line segment representing the base. How long is that dark line segment? It's less than 1/2.
The height is indeed 1/3. Bingo!

The length of the base is (1/2) - (1/6), and yes, that comes out to (1/3). So now you know both the base and the height of this parallelogram. The area of the p. is simply (base) * (height).
