Suffrage means the right to vote. In the U S of A women have suffrage now.
The 19th Amendment changed the Constitution to validate female suffrage. It was opposed by Democrats in the Senate but in 1919 Republicans got enough votes to send it to the States. It was ratified by the states in 1920.
