OpenStudy (hiottmatt777):

Some species of passion flowers grow structures on their leaves that resemble the yellow eggs of the Heliconius butterfly. Which of the following best explains why?

OpenStudy (festinger):

So that the Heliconius butterfly will not lay eggs on the same plant. This is because if the new butterfly lays their eggs, these eggs will hatch after the existing eggs, so they won't lay their eggs on this plant. But since these are fake egg structures, the plant is able to trick the butterflies into laying their eggs elsewhere.
