Write the slope-intercept form of the given line. Include your work in your final answer.
There are a few things to keep in mind, y intercept and the slope, how many units you go up or down, over how many units you go left or right. In this graph, we are falling 3 units and moving to the right two units, so the slope would be what??
y intercept is where the line crosses the y axis, if it is a positive number, you add it to the equation, if it crosses at a negative number, you subtract it from the equation
Obviously you need to find the slope and the y-intercept. The coordinates of the y-intercept are readily found in the graph. Find the slope of this line. One of the easier ways in which to do this would be to choose as two points on the line the y-intercept and the x-intercept. Do you know the formula for slope?
m= y2 - y1 / x2- x1
that's one way, yes. Pick two points on your line for this method. and type the points when your done
i cant tell which points
Your choice of points is arbitrary. You can pick any two points you want.
they can be any points as long as they are on that line, it would be easier though if you picked points that are rational and don't go into decimals.
-2, -3
A few minutes ago, I suggested that you choose as your two points the x-intercept and the y-intercept of this line. Look where the line crosses the y-axis. What's the x-value there? the y-value?
the intercepts are where your line touches the x axis and y axis
you guys can pick any you want
oops, I typed that wrong, it should be (0,-3) and (-2,0)
\[\frac{ -3 }{ 2 }\]
there you go, now where does the line cross the y axis??
-3 ?
great, that is the y intercept, now to put it together
y=mx+b b is the y intercept, m is your slope. can you substitute those in for me?
whats the slope?
your slop was determined by y2-y1/x2-x1 remember? We found that our slope was -3/2
okay so y= -3/2x+-3
So close! when you add a negative number, it is the same as subtracting. so +-3 turns into what?
y= -3/2x+3
no, it turns into subtraction, not addition, +-3 would be the same as subtracting 3. -3
y=-3/2x-3 ?
you got it :D
can you help me with 3 more?
yeah, sure.
want me to open the new question so you can get your medal?
so for it :3
go for it*
