@pooja195 chooses a bin marbles at random. Each bin has a weight of 10 tons with a standard deviation of 1 ton. Suppose @satellite73 generously picks 4 bins of marbles for pooja. What is the standard deviation of the marbles that Satelite picked? I thought it was 4, cuz it was 4 * 1. But the answer is 2. I'm guessing it's because the '4' was squared, but I'm not quite sure why.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

What a devious method to get people to help with your question, lol

OpenStudy (mhchen):

.-. I would've tagged someone anyweyz

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Wait steve

OpenStudy (mhchen):

I wanna ask you something

OpenStudy (steve816):

sure

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Do you know how to find the force of air-friction, If you made an experiment where you dropped something. So you have the distance and the time of experimental. Then distance and time of theoretical (no air-friction) and somehow subtract the times....idk where to go from there

OpenStudy (steve816):

do you mean air resistance?

OpenStudy (mhchen):

yeah, whatever friction is acting on it

OpenStudy (steve816):

do you mean force?

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Force, acceleration, doesn't matter. We know the mass.

OpenStudy (steve816):

Never mind, I was trying to see if you meant "whatever FORCE is acting on it."

OpenStudy (mhchen):

okay, sure. we'll go with force.

OpenStudy (mhchen):

I really just want to know how to get there from doing an experiment.

OpenStudy (wikipedia):

They ask for STANDARD deviation. So you found the variation (4) but the standard one is 2 since you find the root.

OpenStudy (wikipedia):

:3

OpenStudy (steve816):

Ok, when you drop something without air resistance, the Fnet is equal to Fgrav ya?

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Ya

OpenStudy (steve816):

And Fgrav - Fair = Fnet

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Thanks wikipedia but that's not quite right xD...or maybe I'm not right but 1 was originally the standard deviation. Unless you mean 1 is also the variance, then multiplying 4 to it..then...squaring...it...OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH,

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Okay yes steve, I'm still with you

OpenStudy (mhchen):

So I can find the accerlation upwards

OpenStudy (mhchen):

By doing a = 2x/t^2 since I know experimental t, and theoretical x MINUS the accerleration theoretically downwards

OpenStudy (mhchen):

okay I thikn I'm back on track now.

OpenStudy (steve816):

Yea, exactly

OpenStudy (wikipedia):

:D np

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Oh my gosh like I have 4 tests tomorrow, and the physics lab presentation that isn't worth anythign really but still kinda a group project

OpenStudy (steve816):

I took a physics test today hehe, and I went to sleep at 4:30 AM. SO great.

OpenStudy (mhchen):

I haven't pulled an all-nighter at all this year. I want to do it tonight but I'm afraid I won't have the ability after a long time.

OpenStudy (steve816):

And our school has a block schedule system, so it is nearly impossible to get 4 tests in a day haha.

OpenStudy (wikipedia):

same 4 tests all four periods

OpenStudy (mhchen):

wow

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Wikipedia are you from canada

OpenStudy (wikipedia):

nope America XD

OpenStudy (steve816):

Wikipedia is the answer to everything.

OpenStudy (steve816):

dude, we have 4 classes total each day

OpenStudy (wikipedia):

Ayeeeee

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Hmm...my school has 8

OpenStudy (mhchen):

I guess you guys won't be able to imagine 5 AP classes xD

OpenStudy (steve816):

Nope, we take 8 different classes, but each class is every other day.

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Ohhh. it's that kind of a schedule

OpenStudy (steve816):

yeah, and each class is 90 min long.

OpenStudy (wikipedia):

Imagine 6 APs+1Pre-AP+PE #ASIANSTANDARDS

OpenStudy (mhchen):

oh my lord

OpenStudy (steve816):

I like how you added PE there

OpenStudy (wikipedia):

XD

OpenStudy (mhchen):

GPA though? :3 weighted

OpenStudy (steve816):

5.0 GPA

OpenStudy (wikipedia):

4.25/4.5

OpenStudy (mhchen):

out of what, 4.5?

OpenStudy (wikipedia):

dang u smart boi

OpenStudy (mhchen):

@steve816 out of what

OpenStudy (steve816):

no no no, that ain't my gpa

OpenStudy (steve816):

my school has a 5.0 max gpa system though. A in honors/AP is 5.0

OpenStudy (mhchen):

oooh.

OpenStudy (wikipedia):

bai gtg XD

OpenStudy (mhchen):

I'll be honest, my cumulative GPA is actually really bad :(, I did not have strict parents. But I became instantly hard-working from some point. 4.3/4.0 GPA last quarter :b Our school goes above.

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Highest possible is 4.36 in my school I guess.
