OpenStudy (blondie_b23):

Is y=1^x an exponential function? Can someone explain?

OpenStudy (nottim):

very first line

OpenStudy (osprey):

Below is my guess. 1/x is x raised to the power or exponent of -1. But I wouldn't have said it was an exponential function. An exp function occurs when e is raised to a power of x. The exp bit is the e bit, which has a value of about 2.7 ish and was "discovered" by some mathie bloke who could have been called Napier. Possibly Scottish, and had something to do with "natural logs" as in ln(x) etc. Also known as Napierian Logs 'cos of the algebra of indices, surds and logarithms in algebra strangely enough.
