Suppose that in a system of equations, x represents the time spent riding a bike, y represents the distance traveled, and you determine the solution to be (1, -7). Use this problem to discuss the importance of analyzing solution in the context of real-world problems.

satellite73 (satellite73):

is this the entire question?

OpenStudy (dallaslifebaby01):

yeah

satellite73 (satellite73):

i am trying to think of how "distance travelled" can be negative

satellite73 (satellite73):

was there not system to solve? or any word problem to go along with this?

OpenStudy (dallaslifebaby01):

I'm confused by it as well, nope this is all there is

satellite73 (satellite73):

well perhaps that is what they want you to say in the real world distance travelled can't be negative, so the solution \((1,-7)\) makes no sense

OpenStudy (dallaslifebaby01):

maybe but idk

satellite73 (satellite73):

me neither, but that is my best guess

OpenStudy (dallaslifebaby01):

thanks
