I wandered lonely as a Cloud That floats on high o'er vales and Hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden Daffodils; Beside the Lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way, They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: A Poet could not but be gay In such a jocund company: I gazed—and gazed—but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought: For oft when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude, And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the Daffodils.

Part A What is a theme of this poem? Experiencing the beauty of the natural world is a path to happiness. People are at their best when they share what they love with each other. It is often easier to wish for satisfaction than take action to achieve it. There is a certain loneliness that comes with being an observer. Part B How does the image of daffodils "dancing in the breeze" create a mood that helps convey the theme named in Part A? It creates a dreary mood that helps readers see how difficult it can be to act in such a carefree manner. It creates a nostalgic mood that helps readers recognize the solitude that comes with watching things from afar. It creates a communal mood by demonstrating how the speaker and his companion are affected by what they see. It creates a cheerful mood that helps readers understand how the natural world can inspire feelings of joy.
