What is cotyledon

Cotyledon is a part (seed leaf) of the embryo in a seed plant .When the seed germinates, or begins to grow, the cotyledon may become the first leaves of the seedling. Also the no. of cotyledons is an important feature in classifying plants - Monocots are seeds that have only one cotyledon, while dicots are plants with two cotyledons.
