OpenStudy (ahmedcomp4):

Hello I need to mode a pipe culvert in fluid lab. I need some helps in dimensional analysis.

OpenStudy (osprey):

dim analysis. To do it, I think you need and a relationship of some sort. Maybe more detail would help. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culvert http://perendis.webs.com

OpenStudy (osprey):

@ahmedcomp4 q for you. do you mean "mode" or is that a typo for model ????

OpenStudy (ahmedcomp4):

I mean model

OpenStudy (osprey):

Poiseuille's formula (1844)... Flow depends on viscosity, radius of pipe, pressure gradient. Volume per second = k.coefficient of viscosity^x.radius of pipe^y.pressure gradient^z Dims of vol per second L^3 T^-1 dims of pressure gradient ML^-2 T^-1 dims of visco are ML^-1 T^-1 dim of pipe radius is L k is dimless substitute dims in LHS and RHS, and equate the indices of M, L and T on each side. Simultaneous eqs result. Solve sim eqs for x, y, z and that gives vol per sec in a pipe.
