In △ABC, GF = 17 in. What is the length of CF¯?

@amorfide

OpenStudy (justin234):

Thanks bro

OpenStudy (amorfide):

The centroid of a triangle divides the medians into a 2:1 ratio In other words, the length of the median from the vertex to the centroid is 2/3 of its total length. so let's take the Median, CF From the vertex C to the centroid (the point it intersects with the other two medians) is 2/3 of the total length CF is made up of CG + GF since CG is 2/3 of the total length, GF is 1/3 of the total length we know GF=17in 1/3 CF=17 we want 2/3 so we multiply by 2 2x17=34 therefore, CG is 34 so the total length of CF is CG+GF=34+17=51

OpenStudy (mdina64):

what about this ?

OpenStudy (amorfide):

LO is 2/3 of the length of LN LO=104 so work out what 1/3

OpenStudy (mdina64):

how

OpenStudy (amorfide):

if you know that 2/3 LN=104 then rearrange for LN this gives your total length of LN, then you will subtract one from the other, LN - LO

OpenStudy (amorfide):

|dw:1479941147349:dw| so in your case, a/b=2/3
