Briefly discuss why people were so upset with the Dred Scott decision.

There are at least two reasons, firstly that the decision declared that a black person, slave or free, was not a citizen and could never become one. To many people that seemed profoundly unfair. Second reason is that the decision could counter the wishes of the citizens of a free state to remain free.
