What do you think is the coolest equation?
Nice question
The cubic formula|dw:1480200239692:dw|
What do you mean by the coolest equation* my bad :P
\[\Huge e^{i\pi}+1=0\]
Albert and Mileva Maric Einstein's equation E=mc^2 (equivalence of mass and energy in special and general relativity) is a popular favourite ... but I quite like y = mx, or y=mx +c. They're simpleish and I can almost understand them. emphasis on almost. In terms of "coolest" possibly something in cryogenics ? Ah, I've just seen the post about the complex number identity. Am I being picky if i ask whether or not an equation is different from an identity ?
@steve816 Is there an order of equation for which there isn't a formula here ? Quad ok, cubic ok, but there's oen somehwer maybe higher that doesn't have one ?
@osprey Yeah, now you are getting into galois theory and abstract algebra stuff
@steve816 So I DID remember that tv show about Galois. Wasn't he killed in a duel in france or something. (there used to be a french cigarette called a Gaulois, which was pretty ... hmmm )
Here are the roots for quartic equations:|dw:1480201309195:dw|
lol so long
@osprey Yeah, he got shot in a duel at only age 20, crazy to think how much he accomplished at such a young age.
@steve816 would he have liked a rubik's cube ?
@osprey lol of course
@steve816 his hands would have been a blur as he "solved" it in 3.14159 nan seconds ? British politician ed miliband was app a dab hand at rubik's. My dear late mum tried it a few thousand times. someone in the family has the heirloom, and it was pretty well worn. I don't think she ever cracked it, "or picked the lock" maybe ?
y=mx+b
\[\oint_\gamma f(z) \, dz = 2\pi i\sum_{i=1}^n \mathrm{Res}(f,a_k) \qquad \heartsuit\]
