Role: He was a commander for the Union.
When: He served from 1861-1865
Where: He's from Point Pleasant, Ohio.
Why: This is an opinion based question but I personally find him interesting because he actually served as a president at one point (back in 1869)

Role: He was a military officer for the confederate army
