What were the two main reasons that the British granted independence to India? Gandhi’s campaign gained attention from governments worldwide. Gandhi convinced the British government to free India with his nonviolent peace talks. World War II had depleted the resources of the British Empire, making it economically unstable. The Amritsar Massacre caused an international uproar and forced the British out if India. the success of the Sepoy Rebellion had greatly shaken the foundations of the British Empire in India.
