Please help?? How did the alliances between European countries affect their colonies around the world? Imperialist powers in Europe expected their colonized territories to form the same alliances as the "mother country." Most colonies were bound by pre-Industrial Revolution alliances that were different from the alliances between European powers. Most colonies were free to make their own alliances with European countries, regardless of the country that colonized them. Few colonies were involved in World War I in any way, so they were not affected by the alliances of Europe.
