OpenStudy (mousejkl):

this is it

OpenStudy (mousejkl):

help me

OpenStudy (welshfella):

the equation to work out marcus's earnings is given to us y = 15x where x = number of hours worked

OpenStudy (welshfella):

we now have to find the equation for number of hours worked by melinda Note that melinda earns 75 dollars for 0 hours work - and after that she earns 12 dollars for every hour so can you work out her equation?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

* equation for the amount earned by melinda

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Marcus's equation was y = 15x because he earns $15 per hour - but melinda earns $12 per hour so part of melinda's equation will be 12x - do you follow that reasoning?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

@mousejkl?

OpenStudy (mousejkl):

thank you

OpenStudy (mousejkl):

is that all

OpenStudy (welshfella):

No you also have to add on the 75 dollars to get melindas equation

OpenStudy (welshfella):

so for melinda :- y = 12x + 75

OpenStudy (welshfella):

when they have both earned the same amout the y's are equal so we can say 15x = 12x + 75 now solve this equation for x then you can find the answer by pluggging in this value of x into one of the equations - plug it into y = 15x this value of y gives the answer

OpenStudy (mousejkl):

is that all now

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes finding x and y above will give you the answer ( y = amount of money earned )

OpenStudy (mousejkl):

anything eles

OpenStudy (welshfella):

no have you calculated y?
