In the diagram below, point U is on segment BY and the measure of angle BUG is 30 degrees greater than the measure of angle GUY. How many degrees are in the measure of angle GUY$

OpenStudy (welshfella):

First let measure of angle GUY = x then <BUG = x + 30 these 2 angles are on a straight line so their measures add up to 180 degrees so form an equation and solve for x.

OpenStudy (scott208):

well could they be 155 and 125 because those are 30 degrees apart and they add up to 180

OpenStudy (scott208):

SHOOT WAIT THATS 280 NEVER MIND

OpenStudy (welshfella):

x + x + 30 = 180

OpenStudy (scott208):

180-30 150. 150/75 ?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

wher's the x???

OpenStudy (scott208):

hold on 2x=150 150/2=75. isnt that how you do it?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes so < GUY = 75 degrees

OpenStudy (welshfella):

2x + 30 = 180 2x = 150 x = 150/2 = 75 - best to put each step on a new line.

OpenStudy (scott208):

good to know for the future and thank you! ive been stuck on that q for a while
