OpenStudy (macaylam):

Please help! A coordinate grid is mapped onto a video game screen, with the origin at the lower left corner. The game designer programs a turtle to move along a linear path that passes through the points (0, 0) and (10, 8). The designer also programs a bird with a path that can be modeled by a quadratic function. The bird starts at the vertex of the path at (0, 20) and passes through the point (10, 8). What is the slope of the line that represents the turtle's path? I tried using slope formula and got 0.8 but I am not sure if thats correct

OpenStudy (javk):

Okay so the first paragraph is about the turtle and the question talks only about the turtle so we can safely ignore the bird in the second paragraph. That part seems to be redundant...perhaps that's what's causing the confusion? Apart from that...the turtle moves from the origin to the point (10, 8) in a linear fashion aka a straight line. to calculate the gradient of this line do \[m = \frac{y _{1}-y _{2} }{ x _{1}-x _{2} }\] so, \[m = \frac{8-0 }{10-0 }\] Which like you said is 0.8. So *thumbs up* keep up the good work
