OpenStudy Closing - FAQ
WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO US???
same question
^^
I have a question. What was the point of restarting the ambassador/mod program if you're just going to shut it down? That's false hope in it's truest form.
Exactly what I was asking, Zero. Anyways, how much OpenStudy advertising did you do when you guys bought the site?
Here are the answers to some questions you may have about OpenStudy closing. What’s happening? OpenStudy will be closing, effective January 31st, 2017. Why is OpenStudy closing? The OpenStudy and Brainly teams explored many different possibilities for maintaining both sites while upholding the quality standards we believe in. We came to the tough conclusion that we would not be able to innovate on both sites as separate entities with the amount of resources we have. Both OpenStudy and Brainly believe in creating the world’s largest student-powered social learning community - one that we want all students worldwide, including all of you, to benefit from. We will now focus the future on building a combined community on Brainly. Where will I go to get homework help now? We encourage you to give Brainly a try! Like OpenStudy, Brainly allows you to collaborate with other students to answer homework questions. It has some unique features as well, including a competitive system of ranks, and fun activities like Challenges. There are also iOS and Android apps so that you can use Brainly whenever you want. You can sign up for an account here: http://finest.brainly.com/openstudy/ To acknowledge your contribution on OpenStudy, if you sign up to Brainly before January 31st using the link above, you’ll earn 500 extra points on Brainly. This is a lot more than a normal account, and your account will therefore start at a higher rank. We understand that you may have reservations about joining a site with slightly different features than OpenStudy. But, Brainly is YOUR community -- built for students, and by students. Through your questions, answers, and feedback, Brainly will continue to be shaped by you and your ideas. We’ve already added a College level to Brainly based on feedback from OpenStudy users, and we’ll be looking to you for other suggestions about improvements and new features we can add in the future. What will I bring to Brainly’s community? We’ve seen the extremely high quality of help OpenStudiers have given to each other across the years. You have helped teach each other and created a wonderful and safe learning space. We want you to bring that mentality to Brainly. We want you to help other students learn, and at the same time, teach other Brainly community members what makes up a great answer. We will be exploring the unique way OpenStudiers help teach other, and will build that into upcoming new features. What will happen to my OS account? You won’t be able to access your OpenStudy account after January 31st, 2017. But, anytime before that date, you can download a certificate with elements of your profile data, including a record of your SmartScore and any special tags or statuses, as a remembrance of your time on OpenStudy. Download the certificate by clicking on the “Get Certificate” button on your profile page. What if I’m an OpenStudy Qualified Helper, Ambassador, or Moderator? First, we want to thank you for all of your help over the years in keeping OpenStudy a safe, welcoming, and quality place for students of all ages to learn! You may be able to use your experience on OpenStudy toward a recommendation or school credit. Please contact 5ever by January 15, 2017 for more information about this. If you’re interested in being a part of the Brainly Moderation Team, please let 5ever know! But I love OpenStudy! :( We know that losing an amazing place like OpenStudy is upsetting, and we’re sincerely sorry for the disappointment this decision may cause. We want to help you and OpenStudy’s founder to celebrate the many years of learning, teaching, and friendship on OpenStudy. So, we’ll be having two special events prior to the site’s closing. -OpenStudy Celebration. Until January 31st, we encourage you to post your favorite thing about OpenStudy, the most helpful thing you’ve learned here, or another positive memory in OpenStudy Feedback. A few of your responses will be selected to be shared with the wider community! -Farewell Party. On Tuesday, January 31st, we’ll be having an online party from 4pm to 8pm EST to celebrate OpenStudy. We hope you’ll visit, chat, question, answer, and give medals to all of your OS friends! What if I have a different question? You can email us anytime at contact@openstudy.com with any other questions or concerns.
Knew it. Of course that would happen.
Seriously?
Direct Answers are allowed on Brainly, that's not what OS is for. OS is very different from brainly in itself. We can't bring that mentality there if we get complaints about spamming a post because we are trying to get the user to learn. It was just all a ploy to get the OS users to Brainly after all. I was hoping it would be different. Maybe you did try, but in the end, the agenda is still the same.
Let's not be that rude now. We're all sad and mad about this, but this is just ridiculous.
^^ we were right brainy was just going to try to get there site to grow and wen there done grow on us they r just going to throw us in the trash.
guys take it easy.......It may be frustrating but it's alright.....there's reasons for everything. @5ever is a nice person and I know that for sure. but best thing we can do is fuss at @5ever :( we can change this and celebrate our last days on Os. you know? there's no need to argue.......lets just have a happy ending :)
@5ever i have a question for you if that's alright why hadn't you come up with a different resolution such as closing Brainly instead of OpenStudy it is quite clear that OS is more organized so i just don't understand why would you hand the OS dry (even tho it is the better ) and keep Brainly!?
1 - How much advertising have you done for OpenStudy? 2 - What exactly did OpenStudy get shut down for? What features of OpenStudy just didn't cut it? 3 - How about adding public chat rooms to Brainly?
0 advertising
To Zeronknight - While Brainly doesn't have the same multiple-response format available on OpenStudy, we do remove answers that don't provide an explanation if one is necessary. Users must still explain all math/science questions that involve calculations so that anyone asking a question will be able to do the next problem on their own. It will be a bit different, but rest assured that the learning process will still work after the transition.
"What if I have a different question? You can email us anytime at contact@openstudy.com with any other questions or concerns." Pfft I'm not contacting thatt How can you do this to me? ;-;
it dont madder wen os shuts down im moving to pa not brainly
lol
Same really
4 - Will all the questions asked on OpenStudy still be available to access? 5 - Updating the moderator system to be like Brainly's is one of the first things that should happen after leaning up OpenStudy's coding. Why not try to add/update features? Not going to lie, we definitely had a faulty moderation system and whacky coding, but fixing it can give OpenStudy even more potential

@Nintendo_ There are users who complain, and don't even read the explanation, just look for the answer. It's still different regardless.
All: I’ll be noting and sharing all feedback I see on OS with the Brainly Team, so please keep your suggestions coming. As we’ve said in the announcement, Brainly is YOUR community - we are very open to your feedback and it will have an impact on future changes to Brainly. @Zeronknight I’m sincerely sorry for any disappointment for those of you who recently became Ambis. Since OpenStudy will still be here for a full two months, there is still time for you to enjoy your role - if you are still interested in completing it, there is time for you to complete your training and potentially get credit and professional experience for doing so which is why you were still appointed at this time.
^^
@sammixboo - While I can't confirm with 100% certainty, I believe that after January 31st, questions will no longer be available.
Millions of helpful questions and tutorials won't be available for other student's help, then?
^^
if you cannot access the site then you shall not be allowed to access the previous questions because the site servers would be eliminated
This freaking sucks! Now we're forced to go to Brainly, aren't we? I love OpenStudy!!!!
i believe this is the most vital time in OpenStudy feedback section ever Lol
millions of hours will be wasted to all that tryed to get there ss to 99
or got
alright so @5ever if you could answer my question and give us an explanation on why you chose to keep the hideous Brainly instead of OS?
I understand that you want to OS and Brainly to combine. But that will NEVER happen. OS and Brainly are VERY separate communities, with VERY different rules, so after that didn't work, you close OS down, and advertise Brainly on an OS closing post? That makes it a lot worse. In the end, I guess it doesn't matter anymore. OS is gone.
^^
i just accessed www.brainly.com and i have to say i would rather loaf on Windows 96 version than spending time there xD it looks like a tomb there is not even a chat room ]well choosing 5Ever
I was expecting better from Brainly. I always had hope that OS would make it in the end, when the Ambi/Mod program restarted, I told my friends that OS is starting to be active again. In the end, all there was, just false hope. Brainly isn't our community because Brainly and OS are different, maybe it would have been hard at times, but in the end, the easy route was taken. Our opinions of brainly matter, but it's as if you hear, but aren't listening to what OS means to each and everyone of us.
^ what is the point makeing the ppl mods and aimbs if this is going to close in 2 months
perhaps it was a farewell bonus xD
It doesn't matter how much you try to advertise brainly, and try to convince us how the site is. I don't think you realize how many lives this will impact. How many lives that were helped by this site. It's a shame you don't. Because, if you did, you would obviously know that closing this is the wrong deal. It's a 10/10 way to get rid of competition, because in the end, that's all that it was. I can only speculate why the "Openbrainly" was re-opened. None of us will know for sure. There's no point in trying to convince you, or anyone else from brainly because all of us will just hear "Oh, brainly has something similar to that". That's not what we want. We want OS to stay alive. We need positive atmosphere but there is absolutely nothing positive about it.
I already had a Brainly account because the site whenever I'd look up stuff would advertise brainly... So basically all they did was suck OS dry and kill us from the inside out
yep
We know Brainly advertised on here, but have they advertised OpenStudy at all? Advertising your site on here, and then not advertising OpenStudy at all is like asking for a huge loan from someone, and not paying it back. Leaving that person broke. You ask for this 'big loan' and the person gave it to you, and left them believing that you will pay back some day. If that makes any sense, idk.
Here's proof. If you look up any closed question on google and click, you get this.
I would like to have all the tutorials created by Os users. Moreover, i would also like to see a separate section for users to post their tutorials in the Brainly community. ^-^ Thanks :)
i meant the tutorials must be visible there on the other side :)
@sammixboo IT makes perfect sense.
It would be nice to witness OpenStudy's 10th Year
which never gonna happen lol
Have we been around longer than Brainly? I think the older site should stay because then we know what formula works best
i think whatever people say won't matter. so just accept the fact and change the formula xD
:/
this is pointless
@5ever i got a q y did u start up the mod program if os is going to close?
Well they said " For the past 6 months we have been digging deep into the OpenStudy platform, trying to understand if enough resources could be dedicated to the site to continue to make it a world-class platform for social learning. Unfortunately, it became apparent that this would not be possible, and so we will be working to move the community to Brainly in the following months." So i am guessing that before that they thought OS can continue but, after seeing the information.... We can't continue D:;
I've been on this site for more than 6 years, joined since February 2012. Seeing all my work disappear and I've helped countless of people is just unbearable. I've been a moderator for three years, maintaining the site keeping everything in order. You could've used adverts to support the site and carried it on. Think about what you're about to do to the site and all the people that love OpenStudy. OpenStudy is a 'living' community, Brainly isn't and that's what makes OpenStudy unique. There is no social whatsoever to make users interested on Brainly; people just come, ask and get answered and go. There is no turning back I presume?
they've always been lying
@.Sam. +1 :D
ikr @.Sam. +1 theres a lot of ppl that spent alot of time and helping ppl and it is all going to be thrown away
on not and
So since OpenStudy is closing down everyone will be flooding over to Brainly? That's going to be a ton of people on Brainly now. ;-;This is so sad ;-;
no probley not alot of ppl r going to go to pa
Bruh PeerAnswer is going to run even slower now. ;-;
The content (questions, etc.) on OpenStudy won’t be available after the closing date, January 31st. Several of you have asked why the decision was made to continue operating Brainly vs OpenStudy, or if there are specific features on OpenStudy or anything like that, that led to the decision. As I’ve posted in the FAQ above, there weren’t resources to continue both platforms and there is simply more potential and more possibilities for innovation if we keep building our community on Brainly. One factor is that Brainly is a much larger community, as a global platform of over 60 million users. Regarding your concerns about a lack of social features and different atmosphere/feeling of using Brainly - while many Brainly users enjoy the private messaging features, profile interactions and other social features that Brainly has now, this is something we’ll be continuing to work on based on your feedback. I can’t stress enough that your feedback WILL be heard and I am noting all of your suggestions that I see and will be passing them along to the rest of the team. (You can message me any suggestions anytime too, or email them to contact@brainly.com.) We really want to learn from OpenStudy’s success as a community in continuing to shape Brainly, and will continue to consider all of OS's features and other aspects of what makes the community here so amazing.
@5ever is it possible for some of our like medals and ranking to be transferred over to brainly? Maybe 99 people start off at Virtuoso or expert... Etc?
@jagr2713 Unfortunately your ranking or medals can’t be transferred to Brainly directly, but if you create a Brainly account using the link in the announcement, you’ll be awarded 500 extra points on Brainly which will start you off at a higher rank. Also, be sure to save your profile certificate (click the "Get Certificate" button on your profile) so you can have a record of your medals, SS, and more forever :)
@5ever how about if you already have an account, will you still get 500points extra :D
No surprises here for me. Though I think the least Brainly should do is archive the great resource that OpenStudy is. Millions of questions that have already been answered, on a platform where not only was an answer given, but an explanation- some of which were given by college level students, teachers, professors, people with doctorates, etc. Some vetting process could be put in place to filter out spam questions, and perhaps the community could assist with flagging useful posts such as tutorials for many subjects, as well as well thought out explanations + correct answer to questions. Thoughts? @5ever
at least try to keep the archives of OS alive many people in the past years learned a lot thanks to OS and many will keep learning if the archives be stored
Please create an archive of OS questions.
Ok but what about people like me who have brainly blocked on their school network. I can't go on brainly so this is pretty much r.i.p for me.
OS is popular. There is no reason for shutting it down. You really expect us to go to another study site to where we don't know and that we are not use to? This is crap. Don't shut down OS.
Hey... I have to close this thread so I can post something else, but I am reading all of the replies/suggestions, and you can continue to email contact@openstudy.com with any other questions, or PM me questions/suggestions.
Hey 5ever Why you always lying? Why you always lying? Emmmmm oh my gawd Stop flipping lying
I hate brainly.
