Find the value of x

OpenStudy (redheadangel):

okay

OpenStudy (littlecolossal):

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

If I am correct, I think it should look like this: \[180=(5x+13)(3x+7)\] Then you would have to solve for x.

OpenStudy (littlecolossal):

I will try the equation rn

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Let me know what you get. There is an easier way of doing it if you want to know about it =)

OpenStudy (littlecolossal):

I can't figure it out, can you help

OpenStudy (littlecolossal):

ugh

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

No problem! Alright, so as you know a straight line is 180 degrees. If you look at your picture you can see that both the 5x+13 and the 3x+7. (See picture attached). So you know that both of them are equal to 180 degree. So you would set up the equation like I showed you above. Does this make sense to you?

OpenStudy (littlecolossal):

yes

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

One easy way to do this is but the values into x and see if both of them add up to 180. For example: lest do 10. So: (5 times 10 + 13) + (3 times 10 +7) = 60 + 37 = 100. This does not equal to 180 so 10 is not the answer. So now I want you to do the same thing for the remaining options and tell me which one you think it is! =)

OpenStudy (littlecolossal):

hmm..

OpenStudy (littlecolossal):

give me a min

OpenStudy (littlecolossal):

So its not 15 either..

OpenStudy (littlecolossal):

15 went wayy over 180, but that meant any number higher than 15 would be to high as well

OpenStudy (littlecolossal):

I'm not sure, Im so sorry. I suck at math a bunch

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

It's okay, the correct answer is 20. This is because 5 x 20 +13 = 113 and 3 x 20 + 7 = 67 and 112+67=180. So , the correct answer would be 20. =)

OpenStudy (littlecolossal):

Ohh okay right. I really need to work on that. Im gonna try the other things you did also. And thank you so much you are a great help! :)

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

No problem! =)
