OpenStudy (jinx44):

What are the advantages of a specific defense? What are the advantages of a nonspecific defense? Help a birdie out?

OpenStudy (jinx44):

@brittanyrolfe whenever you can :)

OpenStudy (habbababba1):

1a. Redundancy. Skin and monocyte/macrophages are two non-specific immune defenses. If you had no skin it would be pretty tough to roll around in the mud without getting an infection. Also, without the WBCs chillin in there to catch anything that happened to break through you would get an infection every time you get a paper cut.

OpenStudy (habbababba1):

b. Having only a general defense means that your immune system couldn't adapt to changing pathogens. 2. You're on your own, I don't get paid to study invertebrates!

OpenStudy (jinx44):

thank u @habbababba1
