the size/ side length of similar triangles are proportional hence when solving for the missing side length, you can write an equation relating the ratio of sides

a is just solving for x of the given equation notice where they got the numbers and the respective sides they are comparing to

b is just writing a similar proportion to "a" but using the 6 and 8 sides instead
