I am trying to figure out the posted calculus problem. I already figured out part a...but for some reason I can't get part b and I've done everything shown to me.

Ooo areas :) These are pretty fun!

OpenStudy (mathnerd):

Yeah, I was enjoying them until I ran into this problem.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

|dw:1480651810112:dw|So for part B, we're going to slice up the area in the vertical direction like this. Look at the rectangles I've drawn. Can you see how the boundaries will be different for the red and the blue?

OpenStudy (mathnerd):

Yes

zepdrix (zepdrix):

\(\large\rm y=x^2\qquad\qquad\to\qquad\qquad x=?\)

OpenStudy (mathnerd):

\[x=\sqrt{y}\]

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Well... we're taking the square root of a square, that's how we get rid of the square on the x, right? So we end up with two separate functions actually, \(\large\rm x=\pm\sqrt{y}\)

OpenStudy (mathnerd):

Okay
