OpenStudy (kaythxbai):

how many solutions does 5x+8−7x=−4x+1 have

OpenStudy (lannyxx):

How many solutions does x = 5 have?

OpenStudy (kaythxbai):

idk

OpenStudy (lannyxx):

How many values can x have in x = 5?

OpenStudy (lannyxx):

think about what you can put in x and it would make sense. One solution is 5 = 5. That works.

OpenStudy (kaythxbai):

ooooooh!

OpenStudy (kaythxbai):

could you help me with this next one? −9(z+8)=−9z−72

OpenStudy (lannyxx):

I didn't do the previous one for you. I just want you to understand the concept of finding solutions. If you have one equation and one unknown, you always have one solution: x = 5 2x + 7 = 9x - 6 also has one solution. Want to find out? Try solving for x. In your second example, try solving for z, then tell me how many values are possible to be put in z that would make sense.

OpenStudy (lannyxx):

Do you know how to solve for a variable using algebra?
