OpenStudy (colbysmith18):

Distilled water is devoid of any solutes. It contains no additional gases, minerals, or contaminants. Would it be right to give a person an IV (intravenous) therapy of distilled water?

OpenStudy (moneyking):

Distilled water is water that has many of its impurities removed through distillation. Distillation involves boiling the water and then condensing the steam into a clean container. Based on this, distilled water is nearly free of suspended solids. An infusion of plain water into the blood would also wreck havoc with the concentrations of solutes in the blood, which in turn would wreck havoc with the fluid dynamics in the body. When doctors want to put fluids into a person, they drip in saline instead of plain water.
