What is one way local governments are similar to federal governments? @vannieduval1
There are many ways the federal government is similar to the local governments. Both the federal government and the local government must prepare a budget. The chief executive normally prepares the budget. This could be the mayor or city manager at the local level and the president at the federal level. The legislative branch of government then must approve the budget. This would be the Congress at the federal level and could be the city council or common council at the local level. The federal government and the local governments have elections to determine who their leaders will be. The voters must choose the people who will represent them. There may be, if necessary, a primary election before the general election. Depending on the location, the leaders may or may not have term limits. Each level of government has a court system. At the federal level, there are district courts while at the local level they may have municipal courts or village courts. These are some of the similarities that exist with the federal government and the local governments.
Both are divided into three branches. Both have divisions called counties. Both have a president at their helm. Both have a board of supervisors.
