@poopsiedoodle here again, posting on an alt because I already have an open question and such. Has giving OS to the community instead of shutting it down been considered? I'm sure there are some users here (myself included) that would definitely be interested in volunteering to keep OS running.
@5ever
^
1. I don't think 5ever has the power to answer that question. 2. If the community does get ahold of OpenStudy, money needs to come from somewhere -> "volunteering" won't pay for the servers.
\(Volunteering\) won't pay for it, but part of the deal would be that the \(volunteers\) would. Also, I know 5ever doesn't get to decide things like that, but she can definitely pass the idea along, and as far as I know, she's the only one of the higher-ups from brainly that can be contacted here.
im rich ill pay ;)
They'll just give a whole site that rivals theirs that they payed for, for free...
^ paid (sorry just had to Shad) Also it would be very hard to keep a site running even if we filled the extra spaces with ads...
Even with ads, I believe the cost is still a few hundred, if not thousand, to maintain to servers. That is, on a consistent basis. It'd mostly be a matter of how long you [volunteers] can maintain that fee. Additionally, what @ShadowLegendX mentioned is very accurate. OS was Brainly's biggest rival; when the stocks were impacted by the decrease in profit, they bought it out and sought to establish a 'solution' for both of these Sites. Unfortunately, didn't revenue and was shutdown.
Alright, but I didn't say to hand it over and get rid of any trace of Brainly. I'm sure there could be arrangements made to where they would still have a say in the happenings of OS, but there's no reason why they couldn't at least think about doing something like this instead of just shutting us down completely.
Perhaps the website, if funded. However, I don't be believe so for the company.
Yes I believe it has because Iourbfeedback is what keep people comfortable in posting their questions
Is brainly and open study getting taken down @jigglypuff314 ?????
@mrs.ambrose614 only openstudy will be taken down, brainly is staying
Well guys the only way we can keep OS running is if we find a good investor but "To Be Honest" none of us on OS have millions lying around :/ Even if we find a way to buy the website... Buying and keeping a server is EXPENSIVE and i am not sure we can afford it lol. Unless someone is a billionaire and would like to help us :D
Right, but there's no harm in trying. If it turns out that we wouldn't be able to handle it, that's fine. I don't know exactly how much it would take to keep everything up and running, but I'm positive that we wouldn't need a \(millionare\) to keep a website with maybe 200 tops users on at peak times.
