Let f(x) represent a function. Which descriptions match the given transformations? FOR PEOPLE WANTING THE ANSWERS LATER ON, THE ANSWERS ARE 1. -f(x) = f(x) is reflected across the x axis 2. f (x-4) = f(x) is vertically stretched 4 units right 3. f (x) - 4 = f(x) translated 4 units down 4. 4f(x) = f(x) is translated 4 units right
any idea about these please ?
no
how you know it f(x) equal with what axe OX or OY ?
y = f(x) = x for example this function
for x=0 what point will get to graph it ?
the intersection point of axe OX and axe OY so (0,0) yes ?
ok. the first case -f(x) what choice will be from these ? suppose f(x) = 2 so than will get minus in front of f(x) how will change the point from 2 in ...?
|dw:1480984175157:dw|
so than you see this image in the first case how i ve wrote above suppose the f(x) =2 so than you take a minus sign in front of f(x) so than f(x) will be equal how many ?
remember i ve said above that f(x) mean the axe OY so y=f(x) = 2 than you write a minus in front of f(x) will result - y = -f(x) = -2 so this mean that your coordinate point will be translated where 4 units bc. from 2 till minus 2 are 4 units - yes ?
please collaborate - do you understand these ?
@uscrnamc: jhonny9 has a good point. You need to become involved in this discussion if you want us to continue helping you. Explain as best you can what you understand here and what you do not understand. You've listed four answers. What happens to the graph of f(x) if you put a '-' sign in front of f(x)?
thank you @mathmale
