I WILL MEDAL & FAN!!!!!!!!!! What is the solution to the system of equations? 2x+8y=-2 5x+6y=9 A. (3 , -1) B. (-2 , 2) C. (-2 , 7) D. (-1 , 3)

@mathmale @563blackghost @Will.H @ilianapaulk

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You have several methods from which to choose, to solve this system of equations.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

elimination by addition/subtraction elim. by substitution graphing

NO DIRECT ANSWERS, PLEASE! Anyone wantign to help AnimalLover, please guide her through the steps towards solving this problem. Do NOT do the work for her, and do NOT hand out answers without her involvement.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You could take the given points, one at a time, and subst. the x- and y-coordinates into the given equations. If BOTH equations turn out to be true, then that point is a solution.

OpenStudy (fixxer):

Put the values into either of the equation, if the answere match it is the right coordinate

OpenStudy (fixxer):

For instance take A you have 2*3+8*-1 6-8=-2 You can then coclude A is the right answer

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@ANIMALOVER02 : Your turn to get involved.

OpenStudy (animalover02):

Thanks so much!

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You're welcome.

OpenStudy (ilianapaulk):

Solve by the linear combination method (with or without multiplication

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Yes, that'd be a good approach. I'd call it "elimination by addition / subtraction." Thank you, ilianapaulk, for suggesting this.
