Please help? Finding a and b (Calculus)

OpenStudy (sunnnystrong):

\[f(x) = ae^{-x}+bx \] Find a and b such that the coordinates (1,-2) are a local max

OpenStudy (sunnnystrong):

@satellite73

OpenStudy (sunnnystrong):

Find a or b such that: \[f'(1) = 0 \] Find a or b such that: \[f(1)= -2\]

OpenStudy (sunnnystrong):

\[f'(x)=-ae^{-x}+b\] \[f'(1)=-ae^{-1}+b\] \[-b=-ae^{-1}\] \[be = a\]

OpenStudy (sunnnystrong):

So: \[f(x)=bee^{-x}+bx\] Let f(x)=-2 and x=1 \[-2 = bee^{-1} + b\] \[2b = -2\] \[b= -1\]

OpenStudy (sunnnystrong):

\[a = -e\]

OpenStudy (sunnnystrong):

Is this right? not sure :/

OpenStudy (retireed):

Yes it is right, good job!
