\[ABC=DEF\]means...\[AB=DE\]\[BC=EF\]\[AC=DF\]now... \(AB=x+8\) and \(DE=2x-4\), so...\[x+8=AB=DE=2x-4\rightarrow x+8=2x-4\]set equivalence...\[x+8=2x-4\]
