The x term is 16x. The coefficient here is 16 Take half of this to get 16/2 = 8 Afterwards, square that result to get 8^2 = 64. This is the value you add to both sides Notice how we get this \[\Large x^2 +16x = 3\] \[\Large x^2 +16x+64 = 3+64\] \[\Large (x+8)^2 = 67\] which has the left side as a perfect square

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

So simply 64 is the answer?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes 64 is the final answer

OpenStudy (josh0404):

yes the answer is 64
