Quick help, please? The Drake equation calculates the number of technically advanced civilizations in the galaxy as a product of seven factors: R* fp ne fl fi fc L. In the sample calculation in the text, these values are taken as 1 × 1 × 0.1 × 1 × 1 × 1 × 100 = 10. If we were to redo the calculation, increasing each increasable factor by a multiple of ten, what would the result be?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

a. 10 b. 10^4 c. 10^6 d. 10^8

OpenStudy (royalranger):

Did you even calculate it? all you have to do is put it in the calculator.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

I have not tried to calculate it. I am confused with "increasing each increasable factor by a multiple of 10." - what would this mean?

OpenStudy (royalranger):

1 x 20 = 20, i just increased it by a factor of 20. 1 x 100 = 100, i just increased it by a factor of 100.

OpenStudy (royalranger):

by a multiple*

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Oh, I see. So it would be 100,000,000? In other words, 10^8?

OpenStudy (royalranger):

Well i didn't actually do the calculation. So i dont know.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

I'm not sure what you're trying to say?

OpenStudy (royalranger):

I am saying that i didn't do the math to see if that is the correct answer. All i did was help you understand the question.
