Explain why Earth and other planets were not solid when they formed during the beginning of the Precambrian, approximately 4,600 million years ago (MYA). What was this particular time period called, and why is this time period not really considered a part of Earth’s geological history?
The Earth is thought to have been formed about 4.6 billion years ago by collisions in the giant disc-shaped cloud of material that also formed the Sun. Gravity slowly gathered this gas and dust together into clumps that became asteroids and small early planets called planetesimals. Before this, it was not really solid so there was no cohesive geology. http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/earth/earth_timeline/earth_formed http://www.livescience.com/43354-precambrian-time.html
