Yale University professor William Graham Sumner was an advocate for social Darwinism. Sumner said, “There is an old ecclesiastical prejudice in favor of the poor and against the rich.” As a social Darwinist, he objected to this prejudice as he saw it. Advocates of the movement known as the Social Gospel, on the other hand, would have approved of the “ecclesiastical prejudice.” In an essay, explain the difference between the social Darwinism and the Social Gospel movement. Describe some of the actions that the advocates of each philosophy practiced or wanted to see put into practice.
