Line equation

OpenStudy (sunnnystrong):

Finding the equation of a line: Recall that --> \[y=mx+b\] m= slope of line b= y-intercept Looking at this graph.... They give you two points. (-3,4) & (-1,-5) Step 1: Find Slope--> \[m=\frac{ y2-y1 }{ x2-x1 }\] Plug in points*** \[m=\frac{ (-5)-(4) }{ (-1)-(-3)}\] m= -4.5 y=-4.5x+b ** Solve for b --> Plug in point -5=-4.5(-1)+b b=-9.5 so: \[y=-4.5x-9.5\]
