please help!! solve for y (image in the replies)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The three tick marks on each side indicate that all three sides are congruent So all three angles are congruent if each angle is Z, then Z+Z+Z = 180 3Z = 180 Z = 60 So each angle is equal to 60 degrees Do you agree so far?

OpenStudy (anannana):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so angle C is 60 degrees angle C = 60 6x+6 = 60 do you see how to solve for x?

OpenStudy (anannana):

i need to solve for y

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

same idea for angle A angle A = 60 degrees 5y+10 = 60 do you see how to get y all by itself?

OpenStudy (anannana):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

tell me what you get

OpenStudy (anannana):

22?

OpenStudy (tarnett1):

both of the angles have to equal the same and if you put 4 in for both x and y you get an equal number. so i would say y=4

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Let's solve for y 5y+10 = 60 5y+10-10 = 60-10 ... subtract 10 from both sides 5y = 50 5y/5 = 50/5 ... divide both sides by 5 y = 10 let me know if those steps make sense or not
