A number is a perfect square if there exists an integer that when multiplied by itself gives the number For example 16 is a perfect square because 4 * 4 = 16.

18 is not a perfect square as there is no integer when multiplied by itself gives 18.

the first sentence defines a perfect square. 16 is an example of one and 18 is an example of a number which is not a perfect square
