What type of nonfiction works to tell a story?

There is a few different types of Nonfiction, including expository, narrative, persuasive, etc.

An expository is an informational type of nonfiction. It will provide the reader with information and explanations.

A narrative nonfiction is pretty much a true story about a certain time, place, and/or person.

Lastly, a persuasive nonfiction tries to change the opinions of it's readers. It will argue a certain point.
