OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Have you considered adding the two weights and seeing how the sum compares to the limit?

OpenStudy (chiunlee12):

Add both of the weights of the bag and subtract the 75 from it

OpenStudy (chiunlee12):

Because it is asking how much went over the weight limit of 75 pounds

OpenStudy (chiunlee12):

42 3/4 + 35 1/3 - 75

OpenStudy (chiunlee12):

In order to do that you have to first convert your fractions; 42 3/4 = (42 x 4)/4 + 3/4= (168+3)/4= 171/4 35 1/3 = (35 x 3)/3 + 1/3 = (105 + 1)/3= 106/3

OpenStudy (chiunlee12):

Finally, since you cannot add fractions with different denominators together, you have to find the lowest common denominator between 3 and 4; which is unfortunately 3 x 4 = 12
