as you can see as x values becomes bigger and bigger, for example x=1 x=2 x=3 x=4 x=5 x=6 etc infinitely, f(x) becomes smaller, meaning your y value gets smaller and smaller, f(x) tends to 0 but never reaches zero, meaning if x=infinity (it can't but pretend it can) then it would be so close to zero, we would call it zero this means as x gets larger, y gets smaller, this means it is decreasing, since it is decreasing and tending towards an actual value, then it is approaching a value, in this case, it approaches y=0 as x increases without bound, y approaches 0 as x decreases without bound, for example, x tending towards negative infinite, from the graph you see that y gets larger, but it has no approaching value, hence it is increasing without bound
