A thermometer has a percent error of 3%. The actual temperature is 75°F. The thermometer is likely to show the temperature is either.....

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well, we know that 75F is 100% what is 3% of 75 then? so, the thermometer will show +THAT MUCH or -THAT MUCH since that's the error ratio so \(\bf \begin{array}{ccllll} amount&\% \\\hline\\ 75&100\\ x&3 \end{array}\implies \cfrac{75}{x}=\cfrac{100}{3}\impliedby \textit{solve for }x\)

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

x=2.25?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yeap so, 2.25 is 3% of 75F so the thermometer will show \(\bf 75 \pm 2.25\) or 72.75 or 77.25

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

THANK YOU ^_^
