OpenStudy (briqhid):

1) How do you dilate a figure on the coordinate plane 2) How do you determine the scale factor of a dilation? Please reply in simple wording as if you were talking to someone (please try to only use words, not equations)

OpenStudy (welshfella):

First pick a center for the dilation . The origin can be chosen if possible. Then choose a scale factor Then draw a straight from the origin through one point of the figure and continue this line so its length is increased by the scale factor chosen. The end point of this line is the image of the point on the origin figure. repeat this process for each point on the original figure . Then join up the new points to form the image.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

To check the scale factor measure corresponding sides of original figure and the image.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Example The Image of AB is A'B' and scale factor is 2:-

OpenStudy (welshfella):

OpenStudy (welshfella):

You will of couse erase the 2 lines drawn from the origin to leave just the 2 figures
