OpenStudy (vennestudent):

f(x)=2x2+3 for f(-3) I tried and I got -9 but it was marked wrong and I tried again and got the same answer.

OpenStudy (3mar):

Is that your function? \[\Huge f(x)=2\color{red}x^2+3\]

OpenStudy (vennestudent):

f(x) = 2x2 + 3

OpenStudy (vennestudent):

I don't think so

OpenStudy (welshfella):

to find f(-3) replace the x in 2x^2 + 3 with -3 and simplify f(-3) = 2*(-3)^2 + 3

OpenStudy (vennestudent):

It isn't displayed as an exponent

OpenStudy (welshfella):

have you got a picture of the original question?

OpenStudy (vennestudent):

I copied and pasted this: 8. Given f(x) = 2x2 + 3 find f(-3).

OpenStudy (welshfella):

the answer would be -9 if the function was 2*x*2 + 3

OpenStudy (vennestudent):

Okay I will contact my teacher thank you for your help.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

but since the answer is not -9 we must take the second '2' to be an exponent

OpenStudy (welshfella):

OK
